Our Methodology
In short: we only list hotels whose Hotels.com listing states a minimum check-in age of 18. A property that accepts guests from 18 also accepts 19- and 20-year-olds. Policies can change, so always confirm with the hotel before you book.
Where the check-in ages come from
Each hotel listing on Hotels.com includes the property's policies, among them the minimum age required to check in. We collect that value, together with the hotel's address, guest rating, number of reviews, amenities, pet policy, nearby places and an observed starting price, from the public listing of every property we track.
We do not call or email hotels individually. The minimum check-in age shown on each hotel card is the value the property publishes on Hotels.com at the time of our latest monthly check.
Which hotels we list
We track thousands of properties across the United States. A hotel appears on this site only if its listing states a minimum check-in age of exactly 18. Properties that require guests to be 21 or older, and properties whose listing does not state a minimum age, are left out.
A city page is published only when at least two hotels in that city meet this rule.
How hotels are ordered
By default ("Recommended"), hotels are ranked by guest rating weighted by the number of reviews, so a high score from a handful of reviews does not outrank a slightly lower score from hundreds of guests. Hotels whose starting price is more than one and a half times the typical price in the city are listed last. You can also sort by price or by guest rating. Commissions play no part in the order.
How often the data is checked
Our team checks every listed hotel each month with automated scripts: minimum check-in age, starting prices and the other hotel details. Latest check: October 2026. Between two monthly checks, a property may still change its policy, its prices or its availability.
What we cannot guarantee
- A property can change its minimum age at any time, or apply a different rule to some rooms, dates or events.
- Many hotels also require a government-issued photo ID and a credit card in the guest's name at check-in, and some ask for a deposit.
- Some properties apply local rules, for example for casino areas or bars, that do not appear in their general policy.
- Prices shown are observed starting prices, not live quotes. The current price is the one shown on Hotels.com for your dates.
Before booking, check the "Policies" section of the hotel on Hotels.com or contact the property directly.
Reporting an error
If a hotel listed here refused your check-in because of your age, or if you notice an error, please tell us through our contact form. We review every report and remove properties that turn out to require guests to be 21 or older.
